Getting older and life stuff happens. Currently I’d be figuring out how many Halloween costumes I’d be ordering. Now I’m figuring out what show(s) to binge.

THE WEEKLY STREAMING GUIDE by Crawl In Boston

October 11–17, 2026

The 10 best things to watch this week, what’s new across streaming services, what’s trending, and our Halloween picks.

THE TOP 10

1. SMALL PROPHETS

Apple TV | Comedy / Mystery | Streaming now

Our Pick of the Week

Sometimes the best streaming discovery is the show you haven’t heard much about.

Created by Detectorists mastermind Mackenzie Crook, Small Prophets follows a lonely man who turns to an unusual form of magic while searching for answers about his missing girlfriend.

The six-part British comedy mixes gentle humor, eccentric characters, and a surprisingly moving story about grief and hope.

Its first season currently holds a remarkable 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and reviewers have praised its originality and emotional warmth. The first two episodes arrived in the U.S. on October 7, with additional episodes released weekly.

Our verdict: Start here if you’re looking for something genuinely different.

2. EAST OF EDEN

Netflix | Period Drama | Streaming now

Florence Pugh delivers a commanding performance in this seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel.

Writer Zoe Kazan explores the destructive relationships within the Trask family, giving particular attention to the complicated Cathy Ames.

The series debuted at No. 1 on Reelgood’s latest U.S. streaming chart and currently holds an 87% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score.

The A.V. Club was especially enthusiastic about Pugh’s performance and the adaptation’s ambition.

Our verdict: The strongest choice for viewers who want a substantial, character-driven drama to binge.

3. CARRIE

Prime Video | Horror | Streaming now

Mike Flanagan brings Stephen King’s terrifying coming-of-age story to television in an eight-episode adaptation.

Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, while Samantha Sloyan portrays her controlling mother.

This version updates the story for the social-media era, exploring bullying, isolation, and adolescent cruelty.

Early critical reception has been positive, with an 85% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, although reviewers disagree about some of Flanagan’s departures from the original story.

The series also reached No. 1 on JustWatch’s U.S. television chart on October 11.

Our verdict: One of October’s essential horror releases, particularly for Stephen King fans.

4. THE DIPLOMAT — SEASON 4

Netflix | Political Thriller | Thursday, October 15

Keri Russell returns as Kate Wyler in the fourth season of Netflix’s acclaimed political drama.

The new season finds Kate navigating increasingly dangerous international relationships while dealing with the political and personal consequences of her husband’s ambitions.

Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford return alongside Russell and Rufus Sewell.

Our verdict: One of the week’s most promising returning dramas. If you’re behind, use the first half of the week to catch up before Thursday’s premiere.

5. DISCLOSURE DAY

Peacock | Science Fiction / Thriller | Streaming now

Steven Spielberg returns to extraterrestrial mysteries in this ambitious science-fiction thriller starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo.

The film follows an extraordinary attempt to reveal evidence of alien life to the world.

After its theatrical run, Disclosure Day arrived on Peacock on October 9.

With a 79% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, reviews have generally praised Spielberg’s sense of wonder and Blunt’s performance, while acknowledging some storytelling weaknesses.

Our verdict: Our movie-night recommendation for anyone who enjoys intelligent, big-budget science fiction.

6. MOBLAND — SEASON 2

Paramount+ | Crime Drama | New episode Friday, October 16

Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan return for another season of criminal power struggles and family betrayals.

The second season has earned a 90% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, improving on the first season’s reception.

It also remains among the most-watched and most-discussed series on cross-platform streaming charts.

Our verdict: A strong ongoing recommendation for viewers who enjoy stylish, violent crime dramas.

7. LANTERNS

HBO Max | Science Fiction / Mystery | Streaming now

Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star in this grounded interpretation of DC’s Green Lantern mythology.

Rather than relying entirely on superhero spectacle, the series follows an investigation into a mysterious killing in America’s heartland.

The first season recently concluded, making this an ideal time to catch up.

With a 91% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, Lanterns has emerged as one of the better-reviewed superhero adaptations of recent years.

Our verdict: Worth trying even if superhero television usually isn’t your thing.

8. TENZING

Apple TV | Historical Adventure / Drama | Friday, October 16

Director Jennifer Peedom tells the remarkable story of Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary’s historic Mount Everest ascent.

Genden Phuntsok stars as Norgay, with Tom Hiddleston portraying Hillary. Willem Dafoe and Caitríona Balfe also appear.

The film explores the expedition through questions of identity, ambition, and cultural differences.

Our verdict: One of the week’s most intriguing new movies, especially for viewers who enjoy historical adventures. This is an anticipated pick rather than a recommendation based on post-release audience response.

9. THE LOWDOWN — SEASON 2

Hulu | Mystery / Drama | Wednesday, October 14

Ethan Hawke returns in Sterlin Harjo’s offbeat mystery series about an obsessive citizen journalist in Tulsa.

The first season earned a 98% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, making it one of the strongest recent dramas that may have slipped past viewers.

Season two arrives on Hulu this Wednesday.

Our verdict: If you missed the first season, this is an excellent opportunity to discover a critically acclaimed show before jumping into its return.

10. VISIONQUEST

Disney+ | Marvel / Science Fiction | Wednesday, October 14

Paul Bettany returns as Vision in Marvel’s latest television series.

The story concludes the interconnected narrative that began with WandaVision and continued through Agatha All Along.

James Spader returns as Ultron, adding another familiar character to the story.

Our verdict: The week’s biggest superhero premiere. Its place on the list reflects anticipation and franchise interest; critical consensus will need to be assessed after release.
